Frequently Asked Questions

The questions families ask us most often.

Choosing senior living is a big decision. Here are honest answers to the questions we hear every day — and we're always a phone call away for the ones we missed.

How do families pay for assisted living or memory care?

Most families use a combination of options: the Assisted Living Waiver (ALW) Program — a California Medi-Cal alternative to nursing facility placement; VA Aid & Attendance for wartime veterans and surviving spouses; long-term care insurance (we coordinate directly with your insurer); private pay from retirement income, savings, or home sale proceeds; and life insurance conversions that turn an existing policy into a monthly long-term care benefit. Our team helps families navigate ALW, VA benefits, and insurance every week — no cost, no pressure, just clear answers.

What's the difference between assisted living and memory care?

Assisted living supports seniors who need help with daily activities like bathing, dressing, medication, and meals while still enjoying an active social life. Memory care is a specialized program — with secure spaces, trained staff, and structured routines — for residents living with Alzheimer's or other forms of dementia.

How much does it cost to live at ICare?

Pricing depends on the level of care your loved one needs and the apartment they choose. We keep things transparent: every family receives a clear, all-inclusive quote with no surprise add-ons. Reach out and we'll walk you through it.

Does Medicare or Medicaid cover assisted living?

Medicare generally does not pay for long-term assisted living. Some residents use long-term care insurance, VA benefits, or private funds. Our team is happy to point you to financial resources and trusted advisors.

Can my loved one bring their own furniture?

Absolutely. We encourage residents to make their apartment feel like home with familiar furniture, photos, and keepsakes.

Are pets allowed?

Small, well-mannered pets are welcome on a case-by-case basis. Talk with us about your companion and we'll find a way to make it work.

What does a typical day look like?

Mornings start with breakfast and gentle activity; afternoons bring social, cultural, and recreational programs — from gardening and music to visits with the children from our intergenerational program; evenings wind down with dinner together and quiet time. Residents are always free to choose their own pace.

How is care customized?

Every resident receives a personalized care plan that's reviewed regularly with family. As needs change, care levels can be adjusted without anyone having to move.

Can we visit before deciding?

Yes — and we hope you will. Schedule a tour and we'll show you around, introduce you to our team, and answer every question over coffee.

Still have a question? We'd love to hear it.
